Writers’ Group is new to the Sidney Library. Its first meeting will be Monday, March 31st at 6:30pm in the Smart Community Room. The group hopes to provide a place for writers to share their projects and receive constructive feedback from others. This group is open to all, so if you are interested please join us!
A game day, open to the community, will take place on Saturday March 29th at 11:45 am. It is described as an afternoon of games, puzzles, and light refreshments in a family-friendly atmosphere. Feel free to bring a board game you’d like to play or join in with others.
Sidney Library’s own Linda Shea will teach a workshop this Wednesday, March 26th at 6:30pm where she will demonstrate techniques for making birthday cards. Each participant will go home with 5 handmade cards. For a materials fee of only $5, this workshop is definitely worthwhile.
Participants should register for this workshop by calling the library or online.
The Friends of the Library will be showing a free screening of The Butler, directed by Lee Daniels. This film takes place during the 20th century through the eyes of a White House butler. With an all-star cast that includes Forest Whitaker, Robin Williams, and Oprah Winfrey, it should be a great look into the history of our country. We hope you will join us on Sunday, March 23 at 1:30pm in the Smart Community Room for this free event.
In December, the Sidney Library held an electronics recycling event. We recently received the results and wanted to share them with you. Through this event, we recycled:
63 computers (1295 lbs)
79 TVs (4116 lbs)
61 computer monitors (1659 lbs)
3040 lbs in other electronics
The total weight recycled was over 10,000 lbs! These items will be recycled properly, thanks to REACT. We are glad we could provide this service to the community and will be sure to let you know if we hold another event soon.
Kids are invited to the monthly meeting of Lego Club, where members share their creations. If you’re interested, bring your current Lego project on Sat. March 8th at 1pm to the Sidney Library’s Smart Community Room.
A huge thanks to Amy from Cornell Cooperative Extension of Delaware County for her dedication in running the multiple weeks of the Nutrition Program. Each night, attendees have left with helpful tips, new recipes, and delicious samples of the evening’s dish. The final night will be Thurs. March 6th at 6:30pm in the Smart Community Room. If you haven’t stopped by yet, we encourage you to attend!
Alyssa Hardy, the art teacher at Bainbridge-Guilford High School, will display a collection of artwork that includes drawings, paintings, photographs, and prints. The exhibit features work made by Alyssa and her husband Dan, as well as college friends and some of Alyssa’s students over the years.
The highlight of the exhibit will be descriptions accompanying each image, giving some insight as to how each piece was created. For those of you who have wanted to learn more about art techniques, you are sure to enjoy this exhibit in the Smart Community Room for the month of March.
