Computer Classes for March

The Sidney Library is offering a series of workshops to help you do some spring cleaning on your home computer. There are also workshops on Microsoft Excel and Introduction to Skype, the video-calling service. Don’t forget that the library’s Public Computing Center (PCC) has open hours on Mondays from 2-4 and Wednesdays from 11-1. If you have a specific question (how to get an audiobook on your iPhone, how to set up a private board on Pinterest, etc.) we can help!


Musical Performance Rescheduled for Sunday 3/1

The musical performance Party of Two, a duo featuring Judy Pitel on vocals and JoAnn Chmielowski on piano/keyboard, has been rescheduled to Sunday 3/1 at 1:30 pm. You can click here to read more about the performance.


Come See a Movie This Sunday 2/22

Have you heard of the movie Twelve Years a Slave, the Academy Award winning movie that got rave reviews last year when it was released? Now is your chance to see it for free on the big screen. Join us this Sunday 2/22 at 1:30pm in the Smart Community Room, where you can watch this movie set in the 1840’s. Get to know Solomon Northup, a free black man from New York, who is abducted and sold into slavery.

Birds of Prey at the Library – Sat 2/21

We are so excited to have Trish Markl of the Wildlife Institute of Eastern NY join us on Saturday 2/21 at 1pm in the Smart Community Room. Ms. Markl will bring large birds such as owls, hawks, and falcons to the library. During her presentation, she will talk about each bird’s habitats, behaviors, conservation status, and more. You will get to meet and learn about some amazing birds. Mark this amazing event on your calendar – you won’t want to miss it!

This event is for all ages and is free to the public.


Kids’ Craft Hour – Friday 2/20

Do your children enjoy crafts? Are you looking for something to do during school vacation? The Sidney Library will host a craft event for kids on Friday 2/20 from 1-2pm, where kids can make crafts using buttons.Our library staff will help your child make button bracelets, button bookmarks, or even a button racecar!


Library Closed Monday 2/16

The Sidney Library will be closed on Monday 2/17 in observance of Presidents’ Day. We will see you when we resume normal hours on Tuesday.


Game Day for Kids Thurs 2/19

The second special children’s event we have during school vacation week is a game day for kids called Get Your Game Face On. Join us on Thursday 2/19 from 2-4pm. We will be hanging out and having some fun on the Wii, playing board games, and will have other activities available too. When you get to the library, come downstairs to our Public Computing Center and get ready to have a good time!


Free Kids Movie on the Big Screen – Tues 2/17

Are you looking for something to do with your kids next week, when schools are on vacation?

Library to Open at 1pm (Monday 2/9)

The Sidney Library will open at 1pm today, Monday 2/9.

The snow kept us closed this morning but we have plenty of books and movies available… if you are going a little stir crazy, come visit us and pick out something new to enjoy!


Join Us for Book Discussion 2/17

Would you like to chat with others about books you have read? The Friends of the Libraries hosts a book discussion group once a month. On Tuesday, 2/17, they will meet at 11:30am in the Smart Community Room to discuss this month’s book And the Mountains Echoed by Khaled Hosseini.

If you’d like to get a jump on next month’s book, the March pick is The Children Act by Ian McEwan (author of Atonement).
