The Sidney Record began publishing a weekly paper in December 1882. The Sidney Enterprise ran concurrently with the Sidney Record from 1914 \u2013 1958. These are either the oldest surviving or among the oldest maps ever drawn of the route that the canal eventually took. Shovels first went into the ground at Rome, NY in 1817. That&#8217;s where this atlas starts.
